History:

Born as ARGOSY, she was designed by the american outstanding naval engineering firma Cox & Stevens and built by Krupp Germania Werft  in Hamburg in 1931 for Mr . Charles A. Stone of New York. In 1935 the outstanding motoryacht was bought by one of the greatest names in the  Yachting world and in the industry of the time T.O.M. Sopwith . Her name was changed in VITA and it was the motoryacht escorting the J class Endaevour from England to New York and back as the challenger  for the America’s Cup races of 1934 and 1937. …

Born as ARGOSY, she was designed by the american outstanding naval engineering firma Cox & Stevens and built by Krupp Germania Werft  in Hamburg in 1931 for Mr . Charles A. Stone of New York.

In 1935 the outstanding motoryacht was bought by one of the greatest names in the  Yachting world and in the industry of the time T.O.M. Sopwith . Her name was changed in VITA and it was the motoryacht escorting the J class Endaevour from England to New York and back as the challenger  for the America’s Cup races of 1934 and 1937.

The following life of the famous yacht has been very interesting and complex . In 1939 she was purchased by Marino Gamboa ,straw man of Juan Negrin, prime minister of Spain during the spanish civil war . The yacht was used to rescue and  carry an enormous amount of gold and precious goods for an esteemed  value of 300 M$ of the time from Spain to Mexico .

During the second world war the yacht was purchased by the US Navy and served as Coastguard ship with the name USS CYTHERA .

After the war she had different names and use . Among them she was called

ABRIL, then  SÁTIRA .In 1946 under the name of  BEN HECH she delivered 600 jewish refugies in Israel . She was based in Israel as military ship and took part to the Sinai war. Finally in 1956 she went back to a more relaxing duty as a charming ferryboat between Napoli and Capri island in south Italy under the name of SANTA MARÍA DEL MARE with italian flag until 2002. Finally the ship was purchased by a german company and she underwent to a complete refit , back to her origins as a yacht with a new name . 90 % of the refit operations have been provided and approved by RINA surveyors , investing  over 10 M€ ,before the company stopped the operations in july 2011 for economical reasons .
